afterletter

You shouldn't have to write thirty letters
after losing someone.

When a person dies, their family is expected to notify dozens of institutions — banks, councils, pensions, utilities, HMRC, DVLA, every subscription. We draft every letter for you. You sign. We post. From £99.

How it works

OneBegin

You pay through Stripe and receive a short, gentle intake form. Tell us who has died and which institutions to contact. Add your own list of subscriptions if you wish.

TwoWe draft

Within 72 hours, we produce a complete pack of letters and forms, personalised, in plain English, ready for the executor or next-of-kin to sign.

ThreeYou sign and send

You sign each letter. We can also print, stamp and post them on your behalf for an additional £20. Replies come to you directly.

For funeral directors and solicitors

Offer your families a small kindness — at no cost to you.

Bereaved families ask for help with paperwork. Most funeral homes have nowhere to send them. We offer afterletter as a white-label service your families can opt into. You earn a referral on every family who uses it, and the institutional paperwork stops being your unpaid Tuesday-morning problem.

Partnership per town

We currently sign one funeral home or one solicitor per town and offer a territorial agreement so we don't approach your competitors. Talk to us about a short pilot.

Common questions

Is this legal advice?

No. We draft notification letters and forms in plain English. We are not solicitors and do not give legal advice. If your situation requires legal advice — for example, contested wills or complex estate matters — we will say so and recommend you speak to a solicitor.

Do I have to sign anything myself?

Yes. Letters notifying institutions of a death are usually signed by the executor or next-of-kin. We draft them — you sign. This is on purpose: institutions require the family's signature, and we never sign on anyone's behalf.

Is my data safe?

Yes. All information is processed in the UK, used only to prepare your pack, encrypted at rest, and deleted 90 days after delivery. We never share details with any institution other than the ones you ask us to notify.

What's the difference between this and Tell Us Once?

Tell Us Once is a free government service for HMRC, DWP, and a handful of related agencies. It does not cover banks, utilities, pensions, subscriptions, councils outside the scheme, or most private institutions. We handle everything Tell Us Once does not.

Can I get a refund if I change my mind?

Yes — full refund any time before we begin drafting (usually within 24 hours of payment). After delivery, partial refunds are at our discretion but we are reasonable. We are here to help, not to argue.

What if I need a letter to an institution not on the list?

Tell us in the intake form. We add custom letters at no extra cost, up to the included count for your tier.

How fast can you start?

72-hour delivery is standard. If you need it faster — for example, a property sale is in progress — email hello@afterletter.uk and we'll try to accommodate.
